Spiced Apples
Another way to freeze apples, Spiced Apple is fantastic to keep in the freezer to add to roasted joints.
Ingredients:
225 g sugar
3/4 pint water
4 inch cinnamon stick
6 eating apples
Method:
Place the sugar, water and cinnamon in a saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves.
Cut up all the fruit into bite sized chunks or slices of at least 1/4 inch thick.
Simmer the apple until tender. I find it beneficial to do a few at a time.
Take the apple from the syrup, drain and cool.
Arrange on a sheet and freeze. Once frozen place into labelled and dated freezer containers.
Remove the cinnamon from the syrup and use or freeze in labelled and dated freezer containers.
Additional Notes:
Cinnamon is perfect for this recipe but any spices can be used that you like to serve with apple. Perhaps try cloves and cinnamon in the dish.
Equipment Used:
Saucepan
Chopping board
Knife
Freezer containers.
Freezing Notes:
The syrup and apple can be frozen for up to 2 months.
The apple can be used to serve around roasted joints or in pies or an apple sauce. The syrup can also be used to make sauces, or sorbets for example.
